Dr. Derek Cheng
Dr. Derek Cheng earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. After completion of this Doctor of Medicine degree from Temple University School of Dentistry in 1996, Dr. Cheng received his Masters of Science Orthodontic specialty degree from Marquette University in 1998. Dr. Cheng is also a board certified orthodontist requiring more rigorous testing.
Dr. Cheng continues to advance his education by attending the American Association of Orthodontists meeting annually. For the benefit of our patients he has also completed the Roth-Williams 2 year advanced orthodontic continuing education course focusing on the relationship of the temporomandibular joints (TMJ), teeth and masticatory muscles.
Dr. Cheng has been practicing orthodontics for more than 25 years and is a member of the American Association of Orthodontics, World Federation of Orthodontics, Illinois Society of Orthodontics, Winnebago County Dental and American Dental Association. Dr. Cheng also served as the President of the Winnebago County Dental Association in 2017-2018. He is also a member of the Spear study club where he meets with other dentists and specialists in the area on a monthly basis to discuss cases.
Dr Cheng is married and has 2 children. In his spare time, he enjoys playing all sports especially tennis and table tennis. Dr Cheng is a proud supporter of many of our patient's sports teams and partners with many local organizations to raise money for The northern Illinois food bank and the Mission of Mercy providing free dental care yearly.
We are a proud partner with Hunger into Hope providing food to children all around the world as well as sponsoring children through Compassion International.
Dr. Cheng is married to Pam and has 2 children. In his spare time he enjoys playing any sport but especially tennis and table tennis. Dr. Cheng loves to support many of Winnebago county schools and their teams.
Dr. Ariadna
Torres-Gorena
Dr. Ariadna Torres-Gorena prides herself in delivering comfortable, hands-on, and personalized orthodontic care to each and every one of her patients. She has been practicing orthodontics for 20 years.
Dr. Torres-Gorena earned her dental degree in her native Bolivia before moving to the United States. In 2008, she completed a Master’s degree and clinical certificate in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics from Indiana University. She also underwent a post-graduate fellowship in Craniofacial and Surgical Orthodontics at Indiana University and Riley Hospital for Children.
After graduating, she joined the faculty at the Indiana University Orthodontic Program. She became board certified with the American Board of Orthodontics in 2011, and re-certified in 2021, showcasing her dedication to continuous proficiency and excellence in Orthodontics.
In 2013, Dr Torres-Gorena relocated to McHenry county to continue her career in orthodontics working as an Associate with Cheng Orthodontics. She is very excited to come back to work alongside Dr. Cheng and his fantastic team!
